Researching LGBTQ+ Heritage

Though LGBTQ culture and experiences have persistently been denied space in the archives and in daily life, there is constant research to expand our definition of queer history to encompass centuries, rather than a three-day riot. Though Stonewall was one of the most pivotal moments of the gay liberation movement, true LGBT historical scholarship takes us back and gives recognition to the names never before seen.
Only through documenting and interpreting the past can we return the favor to the revolutionaries and pioneers that came before us. Only through saying their names and seeing their faces can we see them as who they were, and use their image and bravery as an activist tool in the present.
